Stephen Wolfram: A New Kind of ... Ringtone. [ Ø P3K • ]Bill Gates: "There's only really one metric to me for future software development, which is -- do you write less code to get the same thing done?" Gotta try Q one day. Fun read, as always. "Who did DHTML?" * "So there's an RSS naivete today that is wonderful, but cannot last." "I think [WPF/E] was called Jolt internally. It overlaps what Flash does a lot. Now, I don't think anybody makes money selling lightweight presentation capability onto phones and devices and stuff like that.** We're making this thing free, we're making it pervasive." * The guys you recommended to give up their options and join the Peace Corps? ** Insert "any more" here. I guess Macromedia would've begged to differ ("[Macromedia] receives a royalty for every phone that uses Flash and charges 50 cents to $2 a phone."). Publish has a first look at Microsoft Sparkle and compares it to Flash, which is now positioned in a very uncomfortable middle between DHTML and an amazingly full-featured graphics/user interface kit (Avalon) - which, however, won't be usable at large scale (whenever reach is an issue) for at least 2 more years. I sure hope for Adobe that Flash 8 is worth writing home about (Colin Moock thinks so); also, reach is now to be expanded at almost any cost. |
