Paul Graham: Arc's Out. "Even in this unfinished state, I'd rather use Arc than Scheme or Common Lisp for writing most programs." arclanguage.org ycombinator.com/arc/tut.txt Expect fantastically smug Lispweenieism over here, only to be topped by the fine folks on comp.lang.lisp. For some of the most interesting language features, see earl's list over at esa — and find delight in a snip that also contains a rather insightful quote from Olin Shivers' Scsh paper, from which I'll re-quote only one sentence: "Terse notation is important for interactive tasks." Up to now, I've found Lisp-like languages of the family subtree rich in parentheses rather gruesome for interactive engagement; Arc seems to have cut some syntactic slack, whether that's enough remains to be seen. |
