From London, dear readership, I bring you great news (for some value of news: avid readers of esa enjoyed a one-day Informationsvorsprung durch [N800-]Technik): The 32-bit version of kdb+ is now available for non-commercial use - at the amazingly attractive price of $0. The only restriction Kx put in is a 2-hour session limit (presumably to protect new Qers from overheating). At the same time, code.kx.com has been opened for public consumption (in fact, Niall Dalton switched index.htmls during his talk); among the many treasures you'll find there, a true gem is Jeffry Borror's Q for Mortals, an extensive (478-page!) tutorial on the language at the heart of kdb+. Apart from the Tracish incarnation, Q for Mortals is also being published in book form; a "beta copy" made the rounds yesterday, and after sampling a few pages, I'll rush to fetch my copy as soon as it shows up on Euro-Amazons (it's already available from the mothership). In earl's words: Go play. |
