Lisa was a US$10,000 computer designed and released by Apple Computer in 1983. It was the first commercially available computer with a Graphical User Interface (GUI). See http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa043099.htm for more details. In March, 1984, when the first Macintosh was released, you had to have a Lisa to write software for the Mac.
