The RCS (yet another case of blatant acronym theft! ;-) will probably provide workgroups with blog-overarching contextualization/group formation support features, i.e. it will assist in tightening the workgroup web. For Radio UserLand blogs, this component is absolutely necessary, as for without the RCS company/group-internal Radio blogs (i.e. not part of the public "UserLand cloud") would be rather islandic in nature.

Features that will make it into the release (semi-educated guesswork™ — [upd] way less guesswork now ...):

Centralized Hosting for
- static HTML renderings of Radio blogs,
- "up-streamed" content of the multimedial kind,
- "content-managed" content,
- RSS files
Centralized Update Tracking à la weblogs.com
Centralized Discussion Server
Centralized Referrer Tracking
Centralized Hit Tracking, both for HTML renderings and RSS feeds (through the "Web Bug Simulator") - Rankings!
Centralized "Structured Chat" Server unlikely?
myWorkgroup.root Presence Detection unlikely?

It will probably cost less than $1000.

If I was malicious, I'd characterize the RCS as a giant workaround made necessary only by misplacing the weblogging software — of all places — on the desktop, but of course I'm full of courtesy and that's why I'll happily await March 11th to see what else UserLand has in the box, hopefully quite a bit to rightfully surprise me.

(The multi-blog data assembly and tabulation features are actually kind of innovative — no other weblog system I know of does this out of the box. Can we come up with an open alternative, usable from a multitude of [create Weblog] software? The RCS looks as if it's either not very spam-proof or it will have to lock out non-UserLand systems. Might be a wrong impression, tho. It's late!)
