Thanks for the pointer to Tufte. I hadn't looked him up on the net, so it served as a good reminder to me of a day spent with Tufte, now 15 or so years ago. Tufte's presentation was probably the best single presentation I have ever heard. He began the presentation by throwing out the overhead projector, arguing that it was `.... designed to impede communication ...', handed out a single page of beautifully typeset examples, and managed to drop one pearl after another. All-in-all a thrilling day. It's always a pleasure to see someone who can not only talk about it but can also do it in such an effective way.
