vim is very specialized: the only thing it can edit is a list of lists of symbols. my editor is based on typed links, and typed links only (for example, when something is clicked with the mouse, the sys:mouse node is connected to the clicked thing with a sys:click link. this can then for example react by setting its sys:color property to sys:color/red). every graphic object is a molecule of nodes held together by typed links. i think the next unix will be based on typed links instead of plain text. text is messy (scribble in the margins) and this messiness is needed. information wants to be smeared. the opendocs failed because they r too clean (and too coarse grained). typed links are messy enough to be good a medium. |
