what would you call a device you can phone with and sms/mms? a mobile phone. everything else is unneccessary clutter that (a) only decreases usability and/or (b) puts a lot of money from your pockets to the pockets of your mobile network provider. Thats why i choose Nokia 3120, a very basic mobile phone with very basic functunality (hell it even has no camera!). it's nice and it works better then any multimedia so-called 'smart' phone. at least for me. as you might guess i am not a big fan of the combine everything into one piece of plastic concept. also i think mobile phone - human interfaces are still a real pain in most cases. at least i never found a phone that convinced me to enter/edit larger text than the 150 letters of a sms (while even that also can be much more pain then pleasure). i dont think the mobile phone will ever substitute the pc because of one simple fact: you never will get a good enough compromise between screen and button size and the overal size of the mobile phone. even if a phone would consist of one big (touch)screen with no buttons taking much size (like a palm or sth like that) you still dont want to work with that all day because its still harder to view and edit data. did the palm substitute the pc? no, neither the mobile phone will. all that talk about your house/flat/car/mobile phone/some other stuff becoming your computer is kind of misslead i think. all that stuff is coming as an addition not as a substitution. or would you like to stand up in front of your refrigerator to write comments to weblogs? i wont. |
