Two-cultures-bridging stuff that I think matters includes Richard Gabriel (cf. interview here and, of course, Donald Knuth's literate programming paradigm (cf. the original 1983 paper (pdf), more on wikipedia). Edit: that Gabriel idea of an MFA in Software seems to have peaked around 2002/2003, and there seems to have been some interest by the UIUC, but I can't find anything more recent on it. Edit (2007-03-28): update re MFA in software Just got a google alert that led me to some more factoids. A one-week pilot program with some 15 students ran at UIUC in August 2004. Instructors: Richard Gabriel, Brian Marick and Ralph Johnson. There's also a 7-minute interview out there with Avi Bryant, who participated (audio stream here). |
