David Ness: "It's time for a riff on instant blogging. Instant blogging puts the correspondents at a conference on-line, reporting the course events as they are in process. Some think this is part of the dawn of new journalism. Others think it's a short step to nowhere.

Eberhard Lutz: "I wonder what the fuzz is all about, regarding instant outliners." — So do I. Hierarchical .plan files. Inconvenient to handle. So what?Bringt ASP.NET (endlich) einen Komponenten-Markt für "Web-Controls"? Slightly shattering.

 | David Ness 8362 days AGO Lutz' sensible comments about `instant outlines' express many concerns I share. In addition to his points I think it might be worth mentioning that such technologies also tend to `scale' badly. An outline may be usefully shared between a couple of people, perhaps even three or four, but as the number increases, none of it seems to work very well---changes get buried and go unnoticed, while arguments can wander, seemingly endlessly, down cul-de-sacs of little general interest or purpose. It all looks like the usual `Winer said ``Let there be light'', and, lo, there was light' kind of stuff that so pervades his writing... |
