Deborah McGuinness: "Ontologies Come of Age"Extremely hot: Stefan Pollach's and [create Manfred Andres]' JavaGroups Extension for the Hop.

| David Ness 8141 days AGO As happens all too often these days, two things confuse me in today's snips. First, Deborah McGuinness begins her piece with Ontologies have moved beyond the domains... and this doesn't square with the kind of thing I think of when I think of `ontology'.
Second, I am unclear what [create Trellix] brings to the table. I admit that I have a very hard time figuring out what any of it costs, but when I get down to figures it seems more expensive than Userland and way more expensive than Antvillle. So I am not clear what is interesting about it.
Clues from the knowledgable would be appreciated. |
| stephan schmidt 8141 days AGO I wondered, too. And I'm not sure what Trellix CMS does what the myriads of other CMS systems don't. |
| chris 8141 days AGO Those two are of the "stored for later consumption" kind - maybe I should mark those as such ... |
| David Ness 8141 days AGO Even this raises a tantalizing possibility: would it be possible for you to store a cookie that would let me mark items on your site for my later perusal and follow-up? Might be nice for readers and perhaps you (blog management) could get something from it as well... |
| stephan schmidt 8141 days AGO @David: nice idea, will think about it in snipsnap |
| chris 8141 days AGO Will prototype as soon as time allows ;-) |
| stephan schmidt 8141 days AGO @Chris: Oh, even better and I will copy another vanilla feature. That makes things much easier ;-)) |
| chris 8141 days AGO Heck, I wanted to propose the other way round ;-)
This might also be integrated with a notification mechanism ... Another idea that has been floating in my head lately is to see snips as "content-magnetic" agents, i.e. some subsystem would monitor RSS feeds, some mailing lists and maybe Google results and attach its findings (new findings especially) to a snip (if the snip has been marked as magnetic before). Of course, those things exist in varyingly developed states as separate entities, but the unfication/integration strikes me as something well worth to have ... |
| stephan schmidt 8141 days AGO We are working on a system that suggests snips and rss depending on what other people have read. The idea with the magnetic-content would be nice for that. |
| chris 8141 days AGO What (CF?) algorithm are you using for recommendation? ;-) |
