[create Ingo Rammer], quoting: "I truly believe that most of this world's business logic is implemented in Excel".
hannes 7910 days AGO Oh ja - da kann ich nur zustimmen. Das sehe ich jetzt andauernd....
David Ness 7909 days AGO Yes and no. Yes, if you are talking about `business logic' to support decision making (and makers). Bus certainly `No' if you are talking about `business logic' to support the handling of transactions..
chris 7910 days AGO Yes. These are two very different things indeed, although I think that even for the latter spreadsheets and spreadsheet-based applications play a role in many (small) companies.
stephan schmidt 7909 days AGO We do some technical due dilligence consulting and some companies really have their transaction business logic stored in excel, mostly those who were founded by people with a business and no technical background.
earl 7909 days AGO Hehe, ah I would have fun stories from finance to tell (I guess the sector that comes first to your mind, when someone mentions transactional safety), now if I only were allowed to ....
hannes 7909 days AGO Oh, I have to add, that Mr. Earl is right. But there are other not even small companies having still a lot of business logic and rules "implemented" in Excel. But I would like to add that this is kinda okay for the "special" cases you have in daily business. It is more cost effectiv to do it in Excel than implementing it in other systems. If this is fine is not a question of business supporting technology rather than a question of how detailed you have defined your business. It is very often the case that even big companies create due a lack of understanding a lot of "special" cases which you can handle more easily with Excel than with other systems...
