Dan Bricklin, surprisingly frank about his release angst: "[H]ow very public that would be, going back to my past, and, worse yet, since it will be Open Source everybody can check out my messy coding style and find my novice bugs in an area connected to my name and reputation."

Nevertheless he released wikiCalc, and it certainly is inspiring.

Jon Udell: "It's a truism to say that word processors were feature-complete by 1985 and have added nothing essential since then."

"Suppose we boiled down a large sample of office documents to their constituent elements and ranked them by frequency. We'd find paragraphs, lists, tables, images, links, basic styling, and then a long diminishing tail of rarely used features. [...] In this case, the right thing to do with the long tail is chop it off."
