Enabling Rhino's JavaScript 1.7 support in Helma

2008-02-04

- hns added a new Rhino snapshot to the Helma repository; furthermore, JavaScript 1.7 is now enabled by default!

2008-01-02

- hns committed the (languageVersion) patch below, so checking out Helma from SVN (see helma-notes) or fetching tomorrow's nightly should be enough. Yay!

- Apply token.patch from dev.helma.org/wiki/Rhino+Bugs+%26+Patches/
- Re-build Rhino, copy js.jar to (Helma) lib/rhino.jar
- Apply patch from www.langreiter.com/2007/helma-js-1.7/
- Re-build Helma
- Add "rhino.languageVersion = 170" to [server|app].properties

- Alternatively, fetch helma-js-1.7.tgz (contains updated helma.jar and rhino.jar).

Issues/Observations

- for/in iteration isn't supported for strings. Add it: String.prototype.__iterator__ = function() {for (let i = 0; i < this.length; i++) yield this[i];};
- Destructuring assignment also works in function declarations: (function([a,b]) {return [b,a];})([1,2])
- Destructuring assignment also works with objects and at depth: let {name: name, age: age, address: [home, biz]} = {name: "chl", age: 28, address: ["lngk", "vie"]}
